
LATVIA
These stamps were used in 1941 in "Lettland" = Latvia - with German military overprints= "Latvija" the original Latvian word for the country which had been overrun by the Red Army a year earlier, probably to endear themselves with the "liberated" people of Latvia whose stamps had been replaced with Soviet issues after the Red take-over
