OCCUPATION IN NORWAY
Semi-postal stamps
These are
definitely "Under German Occupation" stamps. The 10+10 øre green view
ship SS Barøy wrecked in Vestfjorden in North Norway Sept. 12, 1941, 15+10 øre
brown view SS Sanct Svitun being in fire at Stad on the west coast of Norway
September 30, 1943, after bomber attack (allied), and 20+10 red SS IRMA after
allied torpedo attack - sank at Hustavika on the west coast February 13, 1944.
Ships sailing along this 1500 miles long coast carried goods for the Wehrmacht
all up to the Lappland Front against Soviet Union. Some also took passengers -
as they did those on the stamps. RAF planes attacked this traffic to destroy the
supplies to Wehrmacht, and regrettable civilian lives were also lost in such
ship sinks.
Thank you very much to Erik L. for his information and help!
