T72 M1, LION OF BABYLON (ASAL BABIL), IRAQ / GULF WAR
INTRODUCTION . BRIEF HISTORY
The T-72M1, known in Iraq as the Lion of Babylon or Asad Babil (Arabic: اسد بابل) is a version of the Soviet T-72 tank, produced at the Bumar Labedy S.A. factory. Zaklady Mechaniczne from Poland and assembled in a steel and handling complex built with West German help in 1986 and established in the vicinity of the city of Taji, north of Baghdad. Of Iraqi assembly and built with Soviet / Russian, Czechoslovakian and Polish materials, it is largely nothing more than the T-72M1 version of the highly reputed tank with certain modifications to be adapted to the needs of the Iraqi army.
